Photo Album: Mice Chewing Their Way Into Crawl Space in Colts Neck, NJ
A family in Colts Neck, NJ was having a mouse issue in their home and had no idea where or how they were getting into the home.
What's This Here
The homeowners mentioned that they found fresh mice droppings in their crawl space, so that's where I began inspecting. As I did, I noticed one of the vents in the crawl space seemed damaged and found an abundance of mice feces and debris throughout the crawl space.
That's How
I took a closer look and discovered that one of the vents was badly damaged and a 2 inch gap in it. This is how the mice were able to infest the home.
A Chewed Out Opening
I also found another vent that had a tiny, chewed out mouse hole in the hardware cloth. Mice can chew through wood, plastic, vinyl, and aluminum so flimsy hardware cloth is no problem for them.
Bait the Mice
I carefully cleaned up all the rodent droppings and installed several Ready-to-Use (RTU) rodent bait stations throughout the crawl space, along the exterior of the home, and in several rooms of the first floor where I found mice droppings.
Replace and Seal the Vents
I'm also going to replace these damaged crawl space vents with new, sturdy ones and schedule several follow-up inspections to monitor the mice infestation and replace the bait in the rodent bait stations.
