Photo Album: Carpenter Ant Nest Found in Tree in Tinton Falls, NJ
I went out on a service call for a new customer in Tinton Falls, NJ who was having issues with carpenter ants getting into his home.
The Main Nest
After finding carpenter ants inside the home, I inspected the exterior of the home and found their trail leading to a tree on the side of the house. I examined closer and found their main nest.
The Scoop on Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are about 1/2 to 5/8 inches in size and build their colonies in wet, decaying wood. They don't consume wood, but hollow it out to create a gallery for the colony.
Evidence of Carpenter Ants
Aside from their large size, an easy way to identify carpenter ants is the build up frass (sawdust) they leave behind when creating a gallery.
Sprayed Them and Baited Them
I sprayed along the interior baseboards, along the sillplate in the basement, and the exterior perimeter of the home with a residual non-repellent. I also treated around the base of the tree with a granular bait.
Carpenter Ant Treatment Process Part 2
The ants will carry either of these product back to their nest and transfer it the other ants in the colony. Shortly after, the carpenter ants are eliminated.
