Photo Album: Citronella Ants Invade Utility Room in Holmdel, NJ
I was sent out on a service call for a homeowner in Holmdel, NJ that was seeing winged insects in his basement.
Swarm in the Basement
When I arrived, the homeowner directed me to the area of infestation, which was the basement. I began inspecting and found swarming citronella ants behind the water heater.
Lemony Fresh Odor
Citronella Ants are yellow to brownish-yellowish in color and give off a lemony or citronella odor when crushed.
Moisture Problem
Citronella ants nest in areas of high moisture, which means there may be a moisture problem in the basement. I examined and sure enough, noticed that the water heater had a tiny leak in it. I told the owner who then contacted his plumber.
Exterminating the Citronella Ants
I applied a residual non-repellent along the seam in the foundation behind the water heater to eliminate the ants and then treated the exterior of home.
That's it for the Citronella Ants
The ants will come in contact with this application, bring it back to their colony, and share it amongst the nest, unknowingly spreading the treatment and guaranteeing rapid elimination of the entire colony.
