Photo Album: Roosting Pigeons Get Evicted by Cowleys in Brielle, NJ
Under the Panel
We inspected and discovered a large amount of pigeon nesting materials underneath the solar panels and on the peaks of the roof.
Health Risks of Pigeon Nests
Pigeon nests contain a parasite called bird mites that feed on blood and, if the nest isn't removed properly, can make their way into a home and feed on the inhabitants.
Risks of Pigeon Droppings
Pigeon droppings contain the disease histoplasmosis that causes lung and respiratory problems. Not to mention, the droppings are acidic and cause damage to the roof, causing leaks, and damage the solar panels as well.
Remove the Nests
First, we carefully removed all the nesting material and then deodorized the areas with a solution that targets bird mites.
Block Their Entrance Point
Next, we installed an exclusion barrier around the entire perimeter of the solar panels.
Protects the Panels
The exclusion barrier is made up of a light metal material and has a plastic coating to prevent rust. It is designed specifically to keep all birds from getting under solar panels, which protects the roof, wiring, and equipment from damage.
Protect the Peaks
We also installed stainless steel pigeon bird spikes along the peaks. This doesn't harm the pigeons but will prevent them from landing and roosting.
Shock Trap
Lastly, we installed a shock track. A shock track is a low-profile ledge deterrent system that is effective against not just pigeons, but all species of nuisance birds.
How it Works
When a pigeon lands on the shock track, a 6-8 volt jolt is emitted that doesn't harm the pigeons at all but utilizes the principle of fear and flight, conditioning birds to stay away.
The Power of the Sun
The shock track gets affixed to roof, with no screws, and is connected to a solar-powered charger. Now the home is guarded against annoying pigeons.
