Photo Album: Carpenter Bees Nesting in Children's Playset in Freehold, NJ
I was sent out on a service call for a new Home Protection Plan customer in Freehold, NJ.
Issue with Bees
The owner mentioned that she spotted some bees near her kids play-set. I investigated and found several round holes throughout the play-set, which means this homeowner has a carpenter bee infestation.
Carpenter Bees LOVE Wood
Carpenter bees are wood-destroying pests that bore 1/2 inch circular holes in wooden structures to create galleries (nests). They primarily bore into unfinished wood that receives the most sunlight. The easiest way to locate these holes is to look for sawdust or the "frass" or the yellow stains the carpenter bee leaves behind.
How to Treat for Carpenter Bees
For treatment, I injected a residual dust product into each hole.
Play-set Safe
As the carpenter bees enter and exit the galleries, they'll come in contact with the treatment and are rapidly eliminated. Additionally, the residual will prevent future carpenter bee infestations.
