Photo Album: Customers Kitchen Taken Over by Carpenter Ants in Freehold, NJ
I was sent out to a home in Freehold, NJ after the homeowner called our office complaining of carpenter ants in her kitchen.
Carpenter Ants in the Kitchen
I began my inspection and found carpenter ants crawling on the ceiling, floors, and countertops in the kitchen. This was a rather large infestation.
All About Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are wood destroying insects that are normally black in color, but can vary to black and red, or completely black, red or brown. They range from 1/2 to 5/8 inches in size and prefer wet or damaged wood to build their nests in.
Still Wet
As I was inspecting, the homeowner told me that she recently had the area over her kitchen re-shingled. I took a closer look and noticed that the area was still wet - which is what attracted the carpenter ants to the area.
Cowleys Extermination of Carpenter Ants
I proceeded to treat the crack and crevice areas in the kitchen and the two adjacent rooms, the box beam in the basement, and the roof line with a residual non-repellent product that the ants will carry back to the nest and transfer to the other members of the colony. In a short amount of time, the carpenter ants are exterminated.
Flushing Out the Carpenter Ants
I then used an aerosol version of the same non-repellent product to treat along the ceiling above the kitchen cabinets. I scheduled a follow-up appointment to return, monitor the infestation, and apply any additional treatment if necessary.
