Photo Album: Those Aren't Bumblebees, Those Are Carpenter Bees in Jackson, NJ
A new customer in Jackson, NJ called Cowleys saying that she might have bumblebees infesting her home. However, after the customer described their behavior, I had a feeling that it was actually carpenter bees infesting the property.
Going In and Out
As I was inspecting the front of the house, I noticed that the bees were hovering around the eaves and going in and out of the overhang by the front door. A closer look told me that these were in fact carpenter bees.
Easy Way to Identify Carpenter Bees
Two ways to easily identify if you have carpenter bees are the yellow, fecal stains and the buildup of frass (sawdust) underneath their galleries .
The Difference Between the Two
To tell the difference between the two is bumble bee's have a hairy abdomen and carpenter bees have a shiny and bare abdomen. Also, carpenter bees drill perfectly, circular holes in the wood to create galleries so they can lay their eggs.
Exterminate the Carpenter Bees
I treated each individual gallery with a direct contact dust residual. This product rapidly eliminates carpenter bees and prevents them from reusing the galleries in the future.
