Photo Album: Carpenter Bees Really Drilling into Homeowners in Howell, NJ
They Were Hovering
Upon inspection of the home, I observed heavy carpenter bee activity in multiple areas along the facia board and deck in the backyard.
Carpenter Bee Drilling
As I examined the area closer, I saw a female carpenter bee actually drilling into the railing of the deck. The female carpenter bees are the ones that drill into unfinished wood to create galleries, or nests, and can sting (but only if provoked).
The Male Carpenter Bees
The male carpenter bees are the ones you see flying around, guarding the nest. Although they appear intimidating, they cannot sting.
Good-bye Carpenter Bees
I treated each individual gallery along the entire back deck and along the fascia board with residual application. As the carpenter bees enters and exist the galleries, they'll come in contact with the treatment. Soon after, they are eliminated.
