Recently, I went out on a service call for a homeowner in Manasquan, NJ who had a raccoon in his attic.
Evidence of a Break-In
As I inspected the roof I came across a damaged area of the soffit that was covered in raccoon paw prints.
Raccoons Love Soffits
Soffits are easy entry points for raccoons because soffits are within reach of a roof corner and have a simple lightweight covering. Some soffits have vents and raccoons can feel the warm, dry air, which attracts them to the area.
How Cowleys Does the Trapping
I sealed off the area temporarily with hardware cloth, set up a nose cone, and attached it to a heavy-duty two-gated trap. The nose cone will safely guide the raccoon into the two-gated trap.
Once the Raccoons are Evicted
I also placed a baited trap nearby as an added measure to entice the raccoon. Once all the raccoons are safely caught, I'll relocate them to a humane location, disinfect the attic, and repair seal up the soffit with sturdy metal flashing.
