Photo Album: Faulty Dryer Vents Perfect for Birds to Nest in Bridgewater, NJ
This homeowner in Bridgewater, NJ was having a bit of a bird problem.
Nesting in the Dryer Vents
After a thorough inspection, we discovered that birds were entering and nesting in a
damaged and faulty dryer vent.
So Many Hazards
As often happens, birds exploit the vent opening to build a nest inside the home. Damaged exhaust vents not only allow birds and other critters to gain access to your home, but also allow moisture to come in, which can lead to mold and mildew problems. However, the biggest risk of all is the nesting material obstructing airflow and creating a fire hazard.
To Accommodate the Issue
So to accommodate the problem we had to make the opening a little wider to attach 3 new magnetic dryer vent covers on. But, first we had to remove the existing rotted vent cover to access the actual full nest.
5 lbs of Nesting Materials
After removing the covers, we carefully removed the nesting material, which accumulated to over 5lbs! Afterward, we sanitized and deodorized the vents with a solution that targets and eliminates bird mites.
A Bit Bigger
Once everything was sanitized, we made the opening about an inch bigger to allow the new vents to fit.
Job Completed
After installing the new vents, we sealed the edges with a waterproof, premium adhesive and painted the tips of screws to blend in.
