Photo Album: Skunk Stinking Up Shed in Hamilton Township, NJ
A skunk was stinking up this homeowner in Hamilton Township, NJ shed and destroying his garden.
Close to a Food Source
I began inspecting the area and found the skunks burrow. The skunk was going under shed to sleep by day and tearing up the lawn looking for grubs (grubbing) by night. Skunks tend to nest as close to a food source, as they feel safe doing so. In this case, the front lawn that it was grubbing in was about 10 yards from the shed.
Let's Be Positive!
For this situation, I set up a positive set, which is a two-gated heavy duty trap with a nose cone attached to it.
What's a Nose Cone Again
The nose cone goes directly over the main access point and safely guides the skunk into the device.
Made Sure It Enters
In order to make sure the skunk doesn't burrow away from our positive set, I installed Dig a Defense® partially around the shed. Dig Defense® is a below ground fence system that keeps nuisance wildlife from digging out of yards. The fence is 15 inches deep and 4 feet across. Since skunks dig at a 45 degree angle and cannot dig straight down, they are unable to go around the Dig Defense®.
Why is it Called Positive Set
It's called a positive set because we're POSITIVE that the skunk will enter the device. Once it does, we'll relocate to a new, humane environment, fill in the burrow, and then finishing installing Dig Defense® to prevent any future intrusions.
