Photo Album: Orb Weaver Spider Visits Grandparents in Freehold, NJ
While treating one of our adult communities in Freehold, NJ for general pests, I came across this large, vibrant yellow Orb Weaver.
Spotted This Little Fellow
While treating the exterior, I noticed a large web and noticeable "dot" in the middle.
What's an Orb Weaver Spider
As I got closer I was able to identify the spider as an orb weaver. Orb weavers are non-aggressive spiders that aren't dangerous to people & pets and are actually quite good at pest control. Their diet consists mostly of flies, beetles, wasps, mosquitos, and grasshoppers.
Let It Be
Because Orb weavers are considered a beneficial insect and it wasn't causing any harm nor infesting the property, I left it alone.
Pest Partner
Orb weavers are scaredy cats and will flee at the first sign of a threat. Unless you pick them up, they will not bite. Besides, the little fella will help the residents keep their area pest free!
