Photo Album: Sloppy Sanitation Leads to Fruit Flies Festering in Holmdel, NJ
Poor sanitation is a great way to invite unwanted pests into your business, which is exactly what happened to this manager in Holmdel, NJ.
Started Off Rough
Beginning my inspection, I immediately noticed fruit flies hovering over a particular drain. When I took a closer look, I saw that the drain was filled with gunk, food debris, and fruit fly larvae.
Clogged Sinks Too
There were also several sinks that were also dirty and filled with food debris and liquids. Fruit flies are attracted to fermented sugars and liquid residue that builds up in drains.
By the Bar Too
There was also discarded lemons all over the bar area. I brought these sanitation issues to the manager's attention and offered some cleaning advice to prevent against fruit flies. He immediately had his staff clean up and disinfect the area.
While They Were Cleaning
After speaking with the manager, I scrubbed out all the drains and then applied a liquid and a foaming application. Both of those treatments will sanitize the drains and remove the breeding grounds for the fruit flies. Once the breeding areas are eliminated, so will the fruit flies.
