Here's a first hand look at some of the damage a squirrel can inflict on your property.
Ripping it Out
As I began inspecting, I noticed that the plastic insert under the ridge vent was chewed and pulled out. After completing my inspection, I determined this is how the squirrels were entering the attic.
Too Small? No Problem
Squirrels are excellent chewers and are notorious for chewing their way into buildings. If an opening is too small for them, they will chew it out so that they can fit.
The Problem with Ridge Vents
Ridge vents, although great for ventilating an attic, get old and warp, leaving gaps big enough for, not just squirrels, but other nuisance wildlife animals to easily enter the attic.
Consult the Property Manager
In order to set-up trapping we needed to have permission from the property manager. Although he gave us permission to inspect the property, he needed to approve trapping and was currently out of town. Once he returns, we can discuss our trapping methods and install a Ridge-Guard®, which is needed. The Ridge-Guard® will prevent the squirrels and other nuisance wildlife from gaining access into the attic.
