The property manager of a community in North Brunswick, NJ had enough of geese defecating all over the retention ponds of his community, so he reached out to Cowleys for help.
Geese Causing Problems
Nesting season for geese begins in early March and these geese were getting ready and causing problems. They were defecating all over the community, causing unsanitary conditions.
Humans Aren't a Threat
Because humans are not perceived as predators, geese have no problem nesting near human environments. The best method to prevent them from roosting is to install a stainless steel grid wire around and over the retention pond.
How Does it Help
The stainless steel grid wire is a deterrent that interferes with the geese's flight pattern and makes it uncomfortable for them to roost. We also attach a Strobe Bird Deterrent Light that works at night and is solar powered. The geese think the blinking light is a predator stalking them, making them feel uncomfortable and assist in moving them off the pond.
Installing the Wire
Once we installed the poles, we began attaching the stainless steel wire that'll cover the entire perimeter of the retention pond.
Set Sail
After that was finished, we began to install the overhead wire which will stretch across the entire pond.
No More Geese Roosting
We installed the stainless steel grid wire on every single retention pond in the community. Now geese will no longer roost in these areas.
