Photo Album: Bad Trapping Causes a Bigger Raccoon Problem for Homeowner in Manalapan, NJ
I went out on a wildlife call for a homeowner in Manalapan, NJ. The homeowner thought that his best friend could successfully trap a raccoon in the attic, but all he did was make the situation worse.
Just Wrong
The homeowner's best friend set-up a "trap" incorrectly near the main access point. The trap isn't tagged properly, it isn't covered, there's an open can of dog & cat food and there are marshmallows everywhere. Instead of trapping the raccoon it actually attracted additional raccoons to the attic!
We Fixed It
I removed the trap, cleaned the area and placed a one-way in front of the access point.
The One-Way
This device allows the raccoons to safely leave the attic, but is designed to prevent them from getting back in.
Baited Traps
I also placed several baited traps nearby. Raccoons always follow the same path over and over agin and by placing the baited traps along their path, we are increasing our chances of successfully and safely trapping the raccoons.
Once They're Gone
Once all the raccoons are safely removed from the attic, we'll sanitize and deodorize the attic, repair the damage, and seal up the access point with metal flashing.
