Photo Album: Alcohol and Fruit Flies Mix Well Together
This restaurant owner in Asbury Park, NJ was having an issue with fruit flies near the bar area.
Build-Up Under the Bar
I inspected the bar area and noticed several sanitation issues. There was a build-up of liquids, food, and gunk, which led to a healthy colony of fruit flies.
Always Happy Hour
Fruit flies will feed on overripe fruit and vegetables, but they are also attracted to the fermenting sugars in alcoholic drinks as well as the liquid residue left in sinks and drains.
Here's the Plan
I brought these sanitation issues to the GM's attention and offered some cleaning advice to prevent against fruit flies. Sanitation is always the best method to prevent against fruit flies.
He Started Cleaning and I Got to Work
The GM instituted a new cleaning protocol and I began my treatment. I scrubbed out the drains and then applied a liquid and a foaming application.
The Breeding Areas Are Removed
Both of those treatments will sanitize the drains and remove the breeding grounds for the fruit flies. Once the breeding areas are eliminated, so will the fruit flies.
