Photo Album: Fruit Flies in Commercial Kitchen in Farmingdale, NJ
While doing a weekly inspection for one of our commercial clients in Farmingdale, NJ I came across an area in the banquet kitchen that had a large number of fruit flies at the coffee station.
Drippy Faucet
While inspecting, I noticed that there was a dripping faucet at the station sink. When I opened up the service panel, water was dripping from the drain under the sink onto the floor below, missing the floor drain completely. This was the source of the fruit flies.
Perfect for Them
Fruit flies breed in wet, organic matter, which in this case was a perfect breeding ground for these annoying pests
Call the Manager
I called the general manager to inform him of my findings. He thanked me, and said he would take care of the leak. In the meantime, I scrubbed the drain and then sanitized the area with a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain.
Foamed & Fixed
Finally, I applied a fly bait and a bio foam application. When I returned for a follow up visit the owner fixed the leak, the floor dry, and no fly activity was observed.
