Photo Album: Preventing Fruit Flies & Cockroaches in Restaurants
Our office received a call from a restaurant manager in Colts Neck, NJ who was having an issue with fruit flies.
Fruit Flies Festering Under the Sink
Moments into my inspection I found fruit flies and their larva in a puddle under the sink in the dishwasher room. Fruit flies are attracted to moisture and the slimy buildup that accumulates in drains.
Moisture Under the Bars
I also noticed a few fruit flies hovering over the bar area. When I inspected, I found a leak in one of the pipes that was causing the severe moisture.
I Also Found...
Continuing my inspection, I noticed some additional debris in the garbage room. I took a closer look and discovered that is was feces from cockroaches.
Informed Management
I told the manager what I found and that the severe moisture issue was a conducive condition to the fruit fly and cockroach infestation. He immediately called a plumber to repair the leak.
My Turn
After the manager and his staff cleaned up the area, I sanitized all the drains with a bio-foam solution and placed fly bait underneath all of the bars and sinks in the restaurant. I also set-up several glue traps to monitor the cockroach activity.
Sanitation is the Key to Prevention
In no time at all, the fruit flies and cockroaches will be eliminated. I'll return on a follow up visit to monitor the situation and apply any additional treatment. Before I left, I told the manager that implementing a few simple sanitation procedures will keep these pests from infesting his restaurant.
