This homeowner in Jackson, NJ was having an issue with mice in her kitchen, but couldn't find where they were coming from.
The Place to Look
After asking a few questions, I decided the area to look at was behind the gas stove. As I inspected, sure enough, I found a big hole with mice droppings around it.
Sweep and Seal
I stuffed copper mesh into the openings and sealed them up with a premium sealant. Why use copper mesh? Mice hate the smell and taste of copper and are unable to chew through it! Once they were sealed, I carefully cleaned up the mouse droppings.
Leading Down
Usually, there is a gas pipe and electric line leading down to the basement or crawl space. In this instance, it was going down to the crawl space.
Found it!
Next, I inspected the crawl space and found where the electric line came down. I sealed up that opening and installed several Ready-to-Use bait stations throughout the crawl space. These stations are filled with an anticoagulant bait that the mice eat. In a short amount, the mice are neutralized. I also set-up several follow-up inspections with the homeowner to replenish the stations and monitor the activity.
