Photo Album: What to Look for When Inspecting for Mice in Brick, NJ
When inspecting for rodents, there are a few key things to search for. For example, a homeowner in Brick, NJ had a suspicion that he might have mice in around his property, so we gathered our tools and went out to inspect.
Mouse Burrows
As we began inspecting the exterior of the property, we discovered a burrow next to the foundation of the home under the deck. A mouse burrow, or tunnel, protects them from predators and is roughly 2.5 cm in diameter. Additionally, we found fresh mouse droppings around the hole, confirming that this homeowner had a mice problem.
Exposed Areas
Mice can also enter your home through openings that already exist, such as access spaces/ exposed gaps for electrical wiring, plumbing, HVAC systems, and crawl spaces. Make sure to seal them up to avoid pest infestations.
Attractants
After finding out where the mice are gaining access into your home, you must determine what is attracting them. Debris and items holding moisture are one of many ways mice are attracted to your home. In this case, the homeowner had a "garbage pile" by an exposed area of his home.
Determine the Pest Solution
Now that we confirmed the type infestation, how, where, and why the pests are entering the home, we can bring our findings to the homeowner and discuss treatment options.
