Photo Album: Squirrels and Snow in Bridgewater, NJ
I was dispatched to a home in Bridgewater, NJ for a squirrel issue in the attic.
Evidence
Beginning my inspection, I found an access point in the soffit that was rather large and the perfect size for raccoons to enter. Fortunately, no raccoons had made their way into the attic, but squirrels certainly did! How did I know? I found a few squirrel-sized footprints in the snow leading up to the attic.
A Rare Find
You will rarely find an attic that is occupied by both. Raccoons are nocturnal so they sleep during the day when squirrels are active. The raccoon wouldn't tolerate the squirrels while it was trying to sleep and would just kick the squirrels out.
Close it Off
Using hardware cloth, I temporarily sealed off the access point and placed a one-way device in front of it. This device will allow the squirrels to safely exit the attic but prevent them from getting back in.
All Set Up
In a short amount of time, the squirrels were evicted from the home. I then sealed up the access point and cleaned up the attic.
