Recently, I went out on a service call for a new customer in Ocean Township, NJ. The homeowner was having an issue with cave crickets in her living room.
Quite a Pesty Problem
Once I arrived and began inspecting I only found a handful of cave crickets throughout her entire home. I decided to do some detective work and investigate her crawl space. As soon as I shined my flashlight I came across hundreds of cave crickets.
Not Harmful
These nightmare-inducing pests are commonly called "sprickets" or spider crickets and are found in caves (hence their name) as well as damp, cool areas. Although they appear dangerous, they are not a threat to humans. Their only means of defense is to jump (really high) to scare off predators.
This is How They Were Entering Above
After thoroughly inspecting the area, I found out that the cave crickets were utilizing a large gap in the radiator and traveling to the above rooms.
Time for Extermination
I sealed up the gap and placed glue boards throughout the crawl space and applied a granular bait. I also applied a liquid residual application all along the sill plates in the crawl space.
Up Above As Well
After I finished treating the crawl space, I went above and sprayed the baseboards, cracks, and crevices and placed glue boards throughout the interior of the home. Once they cave crickets come in contact with either the bait or the liquid application, they will be neutralized.
