A resident in one of our senior buildings we service in Asbury Park, NJ had been getting some mysterious "bug bites" on his arms. Upon a thorough inspection, I quickly realized there was a major bed bug infestation blossoming in this apartment.
Pepper-Like Stains
Beginning my inspection in the bedroom, I found tiny, pepper-like spots on the seam of the mattress. These "spots" are fecal matter, dried up blood excreted from a bed bug after a blood meal.
We Got a Live One Here
I also found live adult bed bugs engorged with blood from a fresh meal.
In the Sofa
I also found more bed bugs in the sofa in the living room.
Vacuum Them Up
Using my HEPA vacuum, I carefully vacuumed the entire apartment. Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers and can harbor in areas aside from the bed, such as the seams of the mattress and tufts of furniture arms on sofas and chairs.
The Next Step
After vacuuming I applied a dust application to the wall void that the bed backs up to and applied liquid residual application to all the harborage areas. I will return on a follow-up inspection to monitor the activity and, if necessary, apply any additional treatment.
