Photo Album: Bed Bug Heat Treatment in Freehold, NJ
I went out on a service call for an apartment complex in Freehold, NJ after both the landlord and the tenant called our office complaining of fleas. What I discovered was a SEVERE bed bug infestation.
Right on the Floor
Beginning my inspection in the main living room, I noticed something odd on the floor by the coach. I took a closer look and discovered that they were bed bugs.
All in the Coach
I continued inspecting the couch and I found a large amount of bed bugs eggs in the seams. Their flattened bodies make it possible for them to fit into tiny spaces, about the width of a credit card.
Also in the Bathroom
After I finished examining the coach I continued my inspection into the next room, which was the bathroom. I was shocked to find them all over the bathroom floor mat. Bed bugs do not fly, but they can move quickly over floors, walls, and ceilings.
All Over the Toilet
They were even all over the toilet! Bed bugs are naturals at hitchhiking and because they live solely on blood, having them in your home is not a sign of dirtiness.
Best Treatment Option? Heat
Due to the severe infestation throughout the apartment, the best treatment option is a heat treatment. First, I treated all the high infestation areas with a liquid application that is a combination of a liquid non-repellent residual and insect growth regulator. This will reduce the bed bug infestation level.
Bring in the Big Guns
After the pre-heat treatment, the heaters and fans will be brought in and heat the apartment to over 120 degrees. This will penetrate the walls and eliminate the bed bugs. When this is complete I'll return to perform another liquid application as a preventative measure.
