A property manager of one of our commercial accounts, an adult community in Toms River, NJ, contacted our office after receiving several complaints from residents about rat activity outside.
Garbage in the Open
Beginning my inspection I discovered that the residents were leaving food and garbage debris out in the open, on the common areas. This was attracting the rats to the area, and eventually, inside their homes.
Burrow in the Side
After a thorough exterior inspection, I found a rat burrow near the side of the water spout. Rodents usually stay close to food and water, which they need to survive.
Their Harborage Areas
Rats will seek harborage areas to build their nests in burrows excavated under concrete slabs, under bushes, beneath ivy, any kind of overgrowth that can conceal their activity. Rats are nocturnal, they are active at night, looking for food. Inspection is key to finding their nest.
Team Work
Meeting with the management, I showed them the sanitation problem and set up exterior rodent bait boxes around the community. Management had the areas cleaned up in conjunction with our baiting program. The residents are now living rodent-free.Team Work
