Photo Album: Wasps Nesting in Weep Holes in Eatontown, NJ
Recently, we went out to Eatontown, NJ on a service call for a homeowner who saw wasps near the side of her house. After close inspection, we identified these stinging insects as yellow jackets
Coming Out of the Void
As we were inspecting we discovered that the yellow jackets were entering weep holes in the brick face of her home. A weep-hole is a small opening that allows water to drain from. Wasps will build nests in voids behind siding, specifically on sunny sides of the home because they need the heat to survive.
Yellow Jackets Are Jerks
Yellow jackets are one of the most aggressive social stinging insects. If the entrance to their nest is approached, they will become extremely aggressive and start attacking.
Battle Plan
Our plan of attack was to treat the weep holes with a residual dust. This works better than injecting a liquid application because the liquid doesn't completely come in contact with the entire nest.
The Dust is Best
The dusting application it flows throughout the cavity, coming in contact with the entire nest, and has a much longer residual life than the liquid application.
Shortly Gone
Once the yellow jackets come in contact with the dusting application, in a short amount of time, they are eliminated.
