As we were servicing one of our commercial accounts, a bagel store in Brick, NJ we noticed a heavy infestation of fruit flies.
A Surprising Discovery
As we were servicing the back kitchen area we noticed a few fruit flies buzzing about. We examined that area closely and found a hefty amount of fruit flies in the discarded seasoning on the floor.
Fruit Flies Love It
Fruit flies are attracted to rotting produce, which will ferment and produce alcohol which they will feed on. They are also attracted to the yeast in bread. As we examined the area we noticed a large number of discarded food and liquids underneath the equipment.
Reported and Cleaned
We brought this to the attention of the owner and the staff and shared with them some proper sanitation techniques in order to prevent future pest infestations. The owner immediately began sanitizing the area.
Our Turn to Clean
After they finished sanitizing the area, we then scrubbed all the drains and applied a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain that fruit flies breed in. Next, we treated the entire perimeter with a residual fly bait and a liquid application. Now that the area has been treated and a new cleaning procedure has been set in place, flies and other pests will no longer be able to harbor in this business.
