Photo Album: Unsanitary Conditions Can Lead to Severe Pest Issues in Basking Ridge, NJ
We were sent out on a service call for one of Cowleys commercial accounts in Basking Ridge, NJ to handle an issue with drain flies.
Thorough Inspection
I grabbed my flashlight and got down on my knees to inspect under the kitchen equipment. Right of way I noticed food and garbage debris accumulating around the caster wheels.
Drain Flies
I inspected the sink room and found that the floor drains had a buildup of muck and debris. I also noticed several fruit flies hovering around the area.
Fruit Flies
Continuing my inspection I noticed several fruit flies circling around a trash can. As I took a closer looked I noticed the garbage can was filled with dirty rags.
Perfect Conducive Conditions
There was also food debris left in the slop sink overnight. These are perfect examples of breeding areas and food supplies for many types of insects.
Sanitation is Key to Prevention
In commercial kitchens, cockroaches and small flies can reproduce quickly with the right environment and breeding conditions. Proper sanitation is key to prevent these pests from becoming a nuisance.
Teaching Time
I made sure to show the manager the deficiencies I found and how to correct them. His employees immediately began to clean and sanitize the restaurant. As the employees started cleaning, I used a heavy-duty brush to thoroughly scrub the floor drain.
Now It's My Turn
Then I applied a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain and then applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in kitchen drains and other areas where these flies are breeding. I was happy to hear that the manager implemented a new sanitation procedure with his staff to prevent any future pest infestations.
