Photo Album: Treating a European Hornets Nest in Princeton, NJ
Recently, I went out on a service call for a homeowner in Princeton, NJ that had a hornet's nest that needed to be treated and removed from the exterior of the house.
Always Wear the Right Gear
Before I begin inspecting the property it's important that wear my protective bee suit in order not to get stung.
Not Your Everyday Hornets
I began inspecting the exterior of the home and found the hornets nest above one of the windows in the front of the house. Normally, the hornets nests that we treat most of the time are bald-faced hornets. This one was European hornets. These hornets are not as common as bald-faced hornets and are much bigger and stronger. They are extremely aggressive but only when something comes close to their nest.
Treating the Hornets
I used my extension pole, equipped an aerosol application, and began fogging the nest. This application paralyzes and eliminates the hornets almost immediately.
Raining Down
The hornets were raining down from the nest, mortally wounded. There had to be at least fifty. I then attached a scraper to my extendable pole and removed the nest.
Bagged
I then bagged the pieces of the nest and properly disposed of them.
