While I was replenishing the bait in one of our rodent bait stations in Jackson, NJ I came across a rather interesting discovery.
This Was Shocking
As soon as I opened the bait station, I was face-to-face with a black widow spider and its eggs!
Entomology of a Black Widow
Female black widow spiders are the most distinctive with shiny black bodies, a red hourglass-shaped marking on the underside of their round abdomen, and are about 1.5 inches long. The males are about half the size of females.
The Most Poisonous Spider in North America
Although fatalities are rare, the black widow's venom is reported to be 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake's and can cause muscle aches and nausea, as well as make breathing difficult.
Time to Get Rid of it
I applied a liquid application directly onto the black widow and the eggs. This application absorbs through the black widows skin and eliminates it. I also made sure to carefully replenish the bait in the rodent bait stations as well.
