Photo Album: Odorous House Ants Slide Into Residents Home in Colts Neck, NJ
Recently, we went out on a service call for a resident in Colts Neck, NJ who was having a severe issue with ants crawling all over her living room.
Odorous House Ants
We began inspecting the ants in the living room and identified them as odorous house ants. Odorous house ants received their name from the strong, rotten coconut-like smell they give off when crushed. They range in size from one-sixteenth of an inch to one-eighth of an inch long.
Underneath the Door
Continuing our inspection we discovered that the odorous house ants were able to get into the house by squeezing through the tiny gap underneath the door. Odorous house ants are attracted to moisture and nest near moisture sources, such as in wall voids near hot water pipes, in heaters, and beneath leaky fixtures.
Get Rid of Them
We applied a non-repellant aerosol application underneath the door, into the wall void, and along the ant trail in the living room. We also applied a liquid application along the entire exterior of the home.
How it Works
The ants will unknowingly come in contact with either of these treatments, carry it back to the colony, and spread it among the other ants through grooming. In a short amount of time, the ants are eliminated. We also placed a door sweep under the door to prevent any additional pests from entering the home.
