Photo Album: Drain and Fruit Flies Infest Building in Freehold, NJ
We were sent out to one of our commercial accounts in Freehold, NJ who was having a severe issue with fruit and drain flies.
Dirty Floors
Beginning our inspection we noticed an area behind the kitchen equipment had a build-up of discarded debris and liquids. Fruit Flies are known to damp, organic materials.
Cover the Bottles
Uncovered bottles and containers are an invitation for fruit flies. Improper sanitation procedures can cost businesses thousands of dollars in discarded inventory. Unfortunately, we had to throw away all the uncovered bottles and jars.
Drains Flies in the Drain
Continuing our inspection we uncovered another pest inside the drains - drain flies! These flies typically breed in drains, hence their name, and live off the "muck" inside the drains. To treat this, we scrubbed and removed all the debris and muck out of the drain.
Remove the Scum
Then we applied a bio-foam solution. This bio-foam solution effectively removes build-up, odors, and scum in drains to help prevent and get rid of existing drain flies and other pests.
Pallets Protecting the Flies
We noticed fruit flies hovering around a stack of pallets in the receiving area. We took a closer look and found additional debris and liquids that were built up underneath the pallets - providing the perfect harborage area for the fruit flies.
Doors Wide Open
There was a wide gap in the service door that was allowing flies and other insects to enter the building. To fix this, we installed a thick weather stripping in between the doors and a door sweep underneath the door.
Now For the Fly Bait
After cleaning and sanitizing the entire kitchen, receiving, and sink area, we applied a residual fly bait under the sinks and pipes.
