Photo Album: Fruit Flies Go Crazy for Onions in Allenwood, NJ
Recently, an owner of an adult community in Allenwood, NJ called our office complaining about fruit flies throughout his kitchen.
All Over the Walls
Beginning our inspection we found a large infestation of fruit flies all over the walls in the kitchen.
Snacking on Some Onions
As we inspected the shelves we discovered fruit flies inside a container filled with onions. Just because they're called "fruit" flies doesn't mean they only breed in fruit. They will breed on any organic matter such a decaying fruit and vegetables. We properly disposed of all the contaminated onions.
In the Mop Bucket
We took a look in the storage room and found fruit fly larvae inside the mop bucket. We cleaned out the bucket and sanitized drains with a liquid application and a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum inside the drains.
One More Step
Then, after cleaning and sanitizing the area thoroughly, I applied a residual fly bait under the sinks and pipes. I then spoke to the manager and the employees about proper sanitation procedures in order to prevent future pest infestations. The cleaner the drains, floors, and all the surrounding items are the less likely fruit flies will be a problem.
