Photo Album: Indian Meal Moths Infest Pantry in Middletown, NJ
A new residential client in Middletown, NJ was having an issue with Indian meal moths inside his kitchen pantry.
Moths in the Kitchen
Beginning my inspection, I found the moths in the kitchen pantry.
Circle of Life
There was an abundance of Indian meal moth eggs, larva, pupa, and adults hiding in the cracks in the pantry.
Some in a Nearby Bag
Continuing my inspection, I noticed there was a large plastic bag filled with tissues. As I took a closer look, I found Indian moth larvae throughout the entire bag.
Spilled Oats
Turns out that this bag previously had dry oatmeal spilled in it and was never cleaned out. Indian meal moths lay their eggs in foods like flours, cereals, grains, seeds, and dry pet food. This was the source of the moth infestation. I advised the homeowner to throw away the entire bag and the items inside.
Treatment Time
First, I proceed to vacuum all visual eggs and larvae. Next, I advised the homeowner to throw away all opened food items as the Indian meal moths could have contaminated them. Then, I treated the cracks and crevices of the affected areas with an aerosol application and then set up glue traps. In a short amount of time, the moths are eliminated.
