Photo Album: Pavement Ants Love Garbage in Brick, NJ
While we were treating a Home Protection Plan clients property in Brick, NJ we came across multiple trails of pavement ants.
Found One Trail
As we began our inspection, we found pavement ants trailing along the side of the home. Pavement ants are tiny ants, only about 1/16 in size and are brown to black in color.
Another Trail
We decided to inspect the other side of the home and found another separate ant trail.
Opened Garbage Cans Hold Moisture
We followed their trail and stumbled upon an open garbage can. This was providing the pavement ants the perfect amount of food and water for them to thrive as a colony.
Coming From the Trees
The pavement ants were coming from a nearby tree right next to the garbage can. Ants forage looking for food and water. They will send scouts out from the colony to try to find a source of sustenance. If the scout finds food or a water source, it will alert the colony and begin an assembly line of food/water transfer.
Multiple Treatments for Multiple Trails
We inspected inside the home and didn't find any ants. We applied a light liquid application directly on the ant trails and around the exterior of the home. We also applied a granular bait around the garbage can and the tree.
No More Ants
The pavement ants will carry the granular bait to feed the other ants in the colony and once they come in contact with the liquid application, they will transfer it to the other ants as they groom one another. In a few weeks, no more ants!
