Photo Album: Birds Perching on Roof in Jackson, NJ
Recently, we went out on a service call for a homeowner in Jackson, NJ who was experiencing an issue with birds roosting on his roof. Once we arrived and began inspecting, we came across a rather disgusting situation.
Bird Feces All Over the Roof
As we inspected, we found a huge amount of bird feces on the roof. Bird poop is actually a mixture of poop and uric acid. Since it's acidic, it can damage roofing materials. The acid dissolves the asphalt in the shingles, which causes the protective granules to wash off of the roof.
A Shocking Solution
To eliminate this problem we installed a shock track system around the perimeter of the roof.
Powered by the Sun
The shock trap system is connected to a solar-powered battery box on the roof.
Safe but Effective
This system emits an 8-Volt electric shock to deter the birds from roosting on the roof. It doesn't harm them, but it scares them.
No More Birds
Once the birds land on it, the track shocks their feet. After being shocked by the system the birds no longer perch and roost on the roof.
