One of Cowleys Home Protection Plan clients was having concerns with paper wasps that were nesting in an old basketball net pole by the driveway near the house. After completing my regular service around the home, we went to inspect the wasp activity around the pole.
Paper wasps get their name from the paper-like material which they make their nests out of. They are sometimes called umbrella wasps, after the shape of their distinctive nests and have a similar body shape to yellow jackets, but somewhat slimmer with a thin waist.
Emerging from the Pole
When approaching, we noticed paper wasps were emerging from a split in the steel pole.
More Wasps
There were also paper wasps flying around the top of the pole. They are social insects and are extremely aggressive and protective of their nests.
To Ensure an Effective Treatment
To ensure that all the areas were effectively treated, I decided to use a residual dust. This will cover all the areas inside the pole and have a long residual effect to prevent any bees or wasps from re-establishing a colony inside the pole.
A Relieved Homeowner
This dust immediately eliminates the wasps. The homeowner was relieved not to have the wasps flying around his driveway.
