Photo Album: Odorous House Ants Infest Kitchen in Toms River, NJ
I went on a service call for a homeowner in Toms River, NJ who had a massive odorous house infestation. Odorous house ant gets its name from the strong, rotten coconut-like smell it gives off when crushed. They range in size from one-sixteenth of an inch to one-eighth of an inch long and move their nests every three months or so in response to rain.
Following the Stinky Ants
I inspected the exterior of the home and found the odorous house ants trailing from a small stoop. I followed the trail along the exterior wall to a nearby hedge about 15 feet away from the home.
Spray Along the Exterior
I proceeded to treat the entire exterior of the home and the nearby hedge with a non-repellant spray from our backpack sprayer. The ants unknowingly come in contact with this application and transfer it among the colony, eventually eliminating the entire colony.
Large Ant Infestation in the Kitchen
When I began inspecting the kitchen, I discovered a massive odorous house ant infestation behind the oven and in the wall voids. After completing my inspection I began treating behind the oven and all baseboards in the kitchen and the nearby rooms with an aerosol application.
Treating the Wall Voides
I removed the switch plate covers and injected an aerosol application into the wall. In a few weeks, the entire odorous house ant colony will be eliminated.
