Photo Album: Squirrels Running Through an Attic in Farmingdale, NJ
A homeowner in Farmingdale, NJ contacted Cowleys after hearing weird noises in his attic during the day. Once we arrived and began our inspection, we found a chewed opening near the soffit. As we examined we saw squirrels running around through the attic.
Chewed Upon Access Point
After inspecting the exterior of the home we found the main entry point. Squirrels chewed their way into this soffit area which leads into the attic.
Seal it Up and Set Up a One-Way
We placed a one-way exclusion device over the entry point and temporarily sealed up the area with hardware cloth. The one-way exclusion device will allow the squirrels to safely exit the attic and, due to the design of the trap, prevent them from getting back in. We also placed baited traps on the roof.
Mark it with Tape
After setting up the one-way, we placed aluminum tape on the end of the device. By placing tape on the end of the one-way allows us to monitor the activity. Once we return and the tape is torn then we know something has exited the area.
Good As New
Once all the squirrels have been safely removed from the home, we placed a patch on the area with metal flashing to prevent animals from reentering the attic. By doing this we're reinforcing the area by connecting everything together to the house, making it harder for nuisance wildlife to breach this area again.
