Termite Access Point
As I was inspecting the garage, I found a crack in the concrete slab where the termite swarmers were emerging from. As I took a closer look, I discovered termite workers outside the crack in the slab. Termite workers search out and collect food for the termite colony. They' re also responsible for building and maintaining termite mud tubes and nests. They feed on cellulose, which is an essential component found in wood.
To Treat the Termites, You Must Treat the Soil
Termites live beneath the soil and enter homes below the ground level of the dirt. They are fragile insects that cannot exist above-ground. For an effective termite treatment, the soil in which they are living and breeding must be treated. Here, to reach the soil, I needed to drill a series of small holes into the concrete slab and inject a liquid application directly into the ground so that the termites come into contact with the product.
Leave Enough Space so the Solution Can Spread Out
When drilling, it's imperative that I space the holes at least 15-18 inches apart. This ensures that the liquid application has room to spread out and increases the chance that the termites will walk through the application.
Inject the Application
After drilling and vacuuming the concrete dust, I injected a liquid application into the soil under the slab. This application binds to the treated soil and creates a protective zone that termites cannot detect. Termites will either ingest the application or come in contact with it as they go about their normal routines. The application spreads like a virus throughout the entire colony and, soon thereafter, the termites are gone! After treating the garage, I continued my inspection throughout the entire interior and exterior of the home and didn't find any signs of termites anywhere else. I scheduled a follow-up inspection to re-inspect, assess the treatment, and determine if any additional treatment steps are necessary to resolve the infestation.
