Recently, I treated a house in Eatontown, NJ for termites. The client had a termite issue over a year ago in her kitchen that was previously treated by another company. Once I began my inspection I detected a swarm of termites inside the wall of her kitchen. After I inspected the entire property, I concluded that the reason why the job failed over a year ago was the treating technician did not drill the concrete under the pavers abutting the structure.
Termites are known as “silent destroyers” because of their ability to chew through wood, flooring and even wallpaper undetected. Each year, termites cause about $5 billion in property damage. This damage typically isn't covered by homeowners insurance. This is why proper termite control is a must.
Step One: Put Down Sentricon
After I finished my inspection, I placed Sentricon bait systems all along the front and side exterior of the property about 10 to 20 feet apart.
How Does Sentricon Work?
When termites come into contact with the Sentricon bait system, they eat the cellulose material and ingest an insect growth inhibitor. The termites go on to share this "food" with their colony members that also ingest the bait. The growth inhibitor then takes over and prevents the termites from being able to molt. Shortly after, no more termites!
Get to Drilling!
The house was on a slab, had low siding and concrete under the pavers. In order to effectively treat the home for termites, I needed to drill around the perimeter of the home. I drilled very neatly between the pavers and broke through the concrete.
Why so Much Drilling?
Why is the drilling necessary? This will allow easy transportation for the termite solution to enter the termites' habitat. This treatment will prevent further infestations and completely stop termites from appearing.
Don't Forget Under the Deck
I also took a paddle bit and drilled through the deck boards.
Need a Bigger Drill
I used a three foot drill bit to break through the concrete under the deck. This will guarantee that I'm reaching the termite infested areas for an effective treatment.
This is a Job for Termidor
After the drilling, I applied Termidor into the soil. Termidor is a termite treatment solution that eliminates a termite infestation and prevents future termite infestations from damaging your home.
Why is Termidor so Effective?
Since termites can't detect Termidors presence, they'll directly ingest and contact Termidor as they go about their normal routines. When termites eat or come in contact with Termidor, it's lights out.
Safe for Years to Come!
Once I finished injecting Termidor into the soil, I patched up the concrete. I also used wood dowels in the deck boards to fill the holes. This job required a thorough treatment. Now the home will be termite free for a long time.
