Photo Album: Multiple Traps to Capture Raccoons in Sayreville, NJ
I was called to a home in Sayreville, NJ to resolve a raccoon infestation in the attic. Wildlife infestations are common in the spring when mothers are looking for private and quiet nesting sites. Attics are prime locations for raccoons and squirrels.
The homeowner only wanted us to trap the raccoons. She did not want us to seal up and repair the roof because she was planning on having a new roof installed in the near future. We explained that our usual strategy with raccoons is to seal all of the entry points except one. We want to funnel the animals to one exit point, and then, with a one-way device, prevent their return back into the attic. We also place baited traps near the one-way. For this customer, I set up two traps on the roof. However, because of the multiple access points, I could not guarantee the capture and eviction of the animals.
Even with just the trap placement on the roof, I was able to trap a raccoon that evening. That raccoon was either very hungry or not that smart! I will leave the traps on the roof for three more sight checks, just in case there are other raccoons lurking about. I informed the homeowner that she should make the roof repairs or have a new roof installed as soon as possible. Until the roof damage is fixed, she runs a high risk of a wildlife re-infestation.
