Photo Album: Mysterious bites turn out to be bed bugs in Pine Beach, NJ
This Pine Beach homeowner was concerned that he may have bedbugs because of unexplained insect bites when he woke up in the morning. No one in the family actually saw any bugs, there were no other signs of bugs like blood or fecal stains on the sheets, and no one traveled anywhere in the last year.
First, to get one bed bug misconception out of the way: You don’t have to travel to some exotic location to pick up bed bugs or even stay overnight somewhere in a motel. The clustered picture is of three well-fed adults and approximately 28 eggs, some hatched, some not. Bed bugs are tiny and the evidence is often even tinier. This picture has been blown-up for visibility. Our inspection confirmed that there were, in fact, bed bugs, and we scheduled treatment immediately while the problem was still in its early stages.

The actual area is only is about the size of a half-dollar. Because I observed bed bugs in different life stages, I was confident that this was not a brand new infestation. These bugs had been in the home for a few months, if not longer. Bed bugs are true masters of stealth and are able to hide their existence for a long time.
