Photo Album: Hornets nest in Bayville high up on roof - Hornet control services
Today was buzzin’ with excitement!
I was dispatched to a home in Bayville, NJ to treat a stinging insect infestation. On the way to this job, we were told there was a nest high up on a roof that needed to be removed. Until we arrived, I did not realize just how high. This nest was formed in one of the highest places that I’ve ever encountered for a nest removal. Fortunately, we carry a large ladder with us precisely for situations like this one.

hese stinging insects are aggressive and will attack anyone or anything that invades their space. This makes bald faced hornet removal especially challenging. Aggravating the colony can send hundreds of angry wasps right in your direction. One sting is painful; multiple stings are downright excruciating. And if you have a sensitivity to their venom, these stings are potentially life-threatening. As shown in the attached picture, particularly for these infestations, I always wear full protection. However, I can tell you from personal experience that you can still receive a painful sting even when wearing wearing protective gear. These insects are relentless, and some of them manage to find the smallest openings.
Hornets Nest Found in Bayville, New Jersey
My co-worker held the ladder in place as I steadily climbed up the ladder. I used safety clips because with stinging insects flying around I did not want to fall if my weight shifted. This job was a bit higher risk than most of my other stinging insect jobs, but I look forward to them. These are the memorable jobs that give me some good stories to tell at the end of the day.
While on the ladder, I first used a fogging and contact-killing aerosol to kill or disbursed the first line of defense and get close enough to the entry hole to dust it in order to kill the wasps in the interior of the nest and any returning wasps as they enter. I waited until all was quiet, and then removed the nest and carried it down the ladder. Once back on solid ground, I packaged the nest to take it off the property where I would later safely discard it.
