Unsanitary Kitchen Causes Fruit Flies in Somerville, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out to a restaurant in Somerville, NJ to handle a fruit fly infestation in the kitchen and bar area. As we inspected the areas of concern, not only did we came across a large amount of fruit flies, we also found a number of sanitation issues! There was a buildup of grease on the walls behind and underneath the kitchen equipment, the floor drains were clogged with debris, and there were a number of open garbage bags in the trash room.
We pulled the manager aside, brought these issues to his attention and informed him that these sanitation issues must be addressed ASAP. Not only that but, in order to avoid any future pest problems, a new cleaning protocol must be followed. Luckily he agreed and he & his staff began cleaning.
Solution
We applied a liquid application into every one of the floor drains throughout the kitchen and bar area and then scrubbed them out. This product is going to eliminate the bad bacteria inside the drains that the fruit flies breed in and neutralize them and their larvae. After that, we applied a bio-foam solution that removes all of the organic build-up, odors, and scum inside all the drains. Next, we applied a fly bait to the severe problem areas to eliminate the adult fruit flies and then set up several pheromone fruit fly traps. The attractant in the traps will going to draw the fruit flies close and the bait inside the traps will neutralize them within moments of contact.
Lastly, we scheduled several follow up visits with the manager to monitor the activity and apply any additional treatments if needed.
