This homeowner in Kendall Park, NJ, had a habit of leaving cat food out for some of the stray cats in the neighborhood. One day, as she was checking the dog houses in her backyard, she was shocked to find that they were currently being occupied by raccoons! Since she had used our Pest Control Division for a previous service, she knew that we handle nuisance wildlife so she gave us a call and we were sent out. As we inspected the area, we also noticed raccoon paw prints going up the downspout and onto the roof, so we decided to inspect the roof. Sure enough, we found an portion of the soffit area torn apart by the raccoons. We informed the homeowner who had no idea that she even had raccoons in her attic. We installed a one-way device over the main access point and temporarily enclosed the area off with hardware cloth. We also placed several baited devices on the roof and throughout the backyard. A one-way is designed to allow the raccoon to safely leave the attic but prevent them from getting back in. Once we safely retrieve all the raccoons from the home, we will relocate them to a new humane environment, disinfect the attic, and install sturdy metal flashing over the damaged soffit area.
