Old Firewood Full of Carpenter Ants in East Brunswick, NJ

Challenge

As we were treating a new Home Protection Plan customers home in East Brunswick, NJ, we found some old firewood in the backyard that was full of carpenter ants.  Carpenter ants are wood-destroying insects. They are so named because they excavate wood in order to build their nests. Carpenter ants build their nest inside a home, seeking out water-damaged, decaying wood that they can easily excavate. In doing so, they can seriously damage the structure of the home.

We brought this to the owners attention and mentioned that firewood should NEVER be stacked on the ground. It should be placed on cement or metal slab at least 5 feet off the ground. Otherwise, he'll continue to experience issues with carpenter ants and other wood-destroying insects, like termites! We were happy to hear that the homeowner will remove and discard all the old firewood and put the new firewood on a rack. 

Solution

First, we treated the area and the exterior of the home with a liquid residual. Next, we applied a granular bait to the grassy areas of the property. The carpenter ants will come in contact with either of these products, return to their nest, and transfer the treatments throughout their colony. A short while later, the carpenter ants will be exterminated.
