A new customer in Flagtown, NJ called our office after finding mice droppings in his basement, so we were sent out to inspect and treat. As we inspected the basement, we noticed that a section of the insulation had a water stain in it. This peaked our interest, because the homeowner mentioned that he never had any type of moisture problem or water leak in his basement. So we carefully removed it and a bunch of mice droppings fell out! This piece of insulation wasn't soaked with moisture, but with urine from the mice! We then removed other pieces of insulation and found more mice droppings and mice tunnels. During our inspection, we did noticed several gaps around the utility pipes that lead into the basement. Turns out the mice were entering the home through those gaps and harboring in the insulation! Although we were able to salvage some the insulation, a majority of it was contaminated and had to be thrown away. We informed the owner that our Crawl Space division can disinfect the area and replace the insulation. He was happy to hear this and will schedule an appointment once the mice are removed from his home. In the meantime, we installed several rodent bait stations throughout the basement, along the joists in the basement, and along the exterior of the home. Afterward, we plug every exposed gap with chew-proof metal mesh and sealed them in place with a water proof, premium adhesive. Lastly, we scheduled several follow up inspections to replenish the bait stations until the mice are no longer present in the home. Mice Soaked & Ruin Insulation in Flagtown, NJ
