Recently, I treated a home in Kendall Park, NJ for termites. The house was on a slab and the termites came up through a crack in the concrete in the middle of the house. There was damage to the hardwood flooring as well as possible damage to the wood members in the wall! Termites can fit through a crack as thin as 1/32nd of an inch, so this tiny crack was no issue for them to squeeze through. Termites are grouped according to what they eat: grass-eating, subterranean, soil-feeding, dry wood, and dampwood termites. Subterranean and drywood termites cause most of the damage to homes and buildings. Termites are known as "silent destroyers" because, by the time you discover a termite in your home, it's already too late, and substantial damage to your home has already occurred! In fact, termites cause over 5 billion dollars annually in property damage — an expense that isn't covered by many homeowners insurance! Termites live beneath the soil and enter your home below the ground level of the dirt. For an effective treatment, I must drill into the flooring and inject a liquid application into the ground so that the termites will come into contact with the product. Once I finished drilling, I injected a liquid termiticide into the slab. This application binds to the treated soil and creates a protective zone that termites cannot detect. The termites will come in contact with the treatment and then transfer it throughout their colony. The application then spreads like a virus throughout the colony and in a short amount of time, the termites are exterminated! The homeowner mentioned that he himself will repair all the termite damage done to his home since he was planning on renovating anyway (this just sped up the process). As a result of a thorough treatment, the home will be termite-free and protected for many years to come.Termites Under the Flooring in Kendall Park, NJ
